Steampunk Event

In August 2019, Bouvet Livet flew 500 guests into the UK from Norway for a weekend away and unforgettable company party. Working in partnership with event organisers Kite Kommunikasjon and The Oxford University Museum of Natural History’s event team, Decadent Times were tasked with bringing an immersive element to the Edwardian Steam Punk themed Ball they created for the Bouvet Livet team.

The Event

Working within tight time frames to work around the Museum’s public opening hours, Decadent Times installed original period furniture into the Museum’s cavernous upstairs café, transforming the area into an authentic Edwardian Lounge.

Props sourced and provided for the area included red velvet chaise lounges, matching carved wooden dining chairs, golden upholstered seats, a carved wooden double love seat, wood bound steamer trunks tables, luscious rugs, floor standing lamps, and disguised LED wall up lighters.

The evening’s entertainment kicked off with a drinks reception on the lawn with stilted performers and giant walkabout dinosaurs. Decadent Times provided last minute additions with two wood bound steamer trunks full of 300 props from button pins to braces, silver shirt armbands, bow ties, hats, flower lapel pins and hair clips which staff handed out to guests as they arrived to wear to complement their attire following a last minute request 24 hours before the event.

The guests then entered the museum where they were greeted by an organ grinder and actors dressed as pet monkeys who entertained the guests as they entered.

The team also provided authentic period games for the guests to enjoy and an open plan Edwardian Period Photo Booth including a 1910 wooden obscura field camera installed with a modern camera within the specimens’ room of the Museum. Guests were provided with lots of authentic props to augment their outfits and capture beautiful vintage photos to commemorate the evening.

During the evening, guests enjoyed entertainment from a vintage gramophone DJ, and stilt walkers dressed as robots and people in mirror costumes. The Gramophone DJ set was followed by speeches and an acrobalance performance on stage, all coordinated with a well dressed steampunk compere. A DJ played music to the end of the night, whilst our Edwardian Lounge, games and vintage photo booth experience continued to prove popular with guests looking for a more immersive experience.

Food and drinks stations were located on the ground floor of the museum, with a second bar sited in the centre of Decadent Times’ Edwardian Lounge and games area where many of the guests gravitated to, to talk, relax and watch the event unfold below them.

“Decadent Times provided a spectacular vintage Photo Booth and Edwardian Lounge at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History for our Edwardian Steampunk Ball. The team from Decadent Times understood the needs of our historic space and worked really well within the parameters set by the museum. Everything looked fabulous on the night and the team was incredibly professional. We very much enjoyed working with Decadent Times.”
